New York Comic-Con Opens With Big Gaming Presence
Posted by James Bishop, 293 days ago Feb 6, 2009 19:45

As the New York Comic Con opens its doors today, comic book enthusiasts aren’t the only ones drooling to get across the threshold. A number of game companies have been showing up since the convention’s inception in 2006 and this year is no exception.

On the exhibitor list are a number of companies, from Atari to Namco Bandai, with a number of games to showcase. Namco Bandai is likely going to be more tempting to the usual comic book convention crowd, while Atari will be showing off games that are more likely to be of interest to the hardcore gaming crowd.

Namco Bandai’s lineup includes Afro Samurai, Dragonball: Evolution, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2 and Ultimate Ninja 4: Naruto Shippuden among others. It’s easy to see why this might appease the general anime convention attendee. That said, they’re also going to have We Ski and Snowboard for the Wii.

On the other end of the spectrum, Atari’s big hitters are going to be Ghostbusters: The Video Game plus Champions Online and Star Trek Online. All three have been highly anticipated since their announcements. In fact, there’s been quite a bit of press recently on the fear that Ghostbusters would end up being shelved and designated vaporware. The two MMOs are nothing to scoff at either.

When all is said and done, there’s more than enough for both the average gamer and the drooling fanatic. Heck, it’d be worth it to go just to see Yvonne Strahovski in the flesh. Well, she’ll be wearing clothes, but a guy can dream can’t he?
