Gears of War Finally Fixed
Posted by Andrew Groen, 276 days ago Feb 9, 2009 12:30

I cannot imagine there are more than five people who were actually affected by this, but it’s still always entertaining to see the beauty queen fall on her face.

A few days ago, the original Gears of War (PC version) was struck with a plague that crippled the entire game. There was a bug in the digital authentification certificate which caused it to expire and deny access to everyone, including people who bought the game legally.

I seriously can’t understand why anybody would have ever noticed this glitch since who the heck still plays the original Gears of War online? On PC no less!

Anyways, Epic have sounded the all clear alarm, and have announced that the game has been fully repaired. Epic responded to a thread in their forums with the simple reply, "We have been notified of the issue and are working with Microsoft to get it resolved."

Though Epic declined to point fingers at parties responsible for the software collapse, Kotaku suggests that perhaps Microsoft is the culprit seeing as how they have so much trouble keeping Zunes in working order.

It would certainly be entertaining if was eventually found out that Epic manufactured this event in order to push the last remaining PC gamers to move on to Gears of War 2. However, I really doubt that I have that much luck.

For now, the stragglers (Gears 1 players) can rest assured that when they wake up in the morning their obsolete online gaming experience will be ready and waiting for them.

I’m amazed at the bias in this article for a website with such a motto. With lines like the following:

"I cannot imagine there are more than five people who were actually affected by this"

"who the heck still plays the original Gears of War online? On PC no less!"

"...in order to push the last remaining PC gamers to move on to Gears of War 2. However, I really doubt that I have that much luck."

"For now, the stragglers (Gears 1 players) can rest assured that when they wake up in the morning their obsolete online gaming experience will be ready and waiting for them."

Seriously? Unbiased? I am a PC gamer, and I like to play gears of war now and then. Although it’s been a while since I haven’t experienced this whole problem with the game not working. I don’t mind differing opinions and realize that the 360 is a good console and everything but good god, step back and cut down on the fanboy rant. You obviously dislike the PC, and there’s nothing wrong with you having an opinion. But you can’t be taken seriously posting "news" on a site that’s "supposedly" unbiased with such a venomous viewpoint of a gaming system. Also, just because a sequel comes out doesn’t mean its predecessor is "obsolete" or any better than what came before it, just look at the ps3.     <---see, that is biased, but I’m not trying to publish my opinion as a "news" article.

Scythik,

I’m pretty sure those are just bad jokes on the part of the author...
