Ubisoft predicted that Assassin’s Creed sales to result in no more then three million copies purchased worldwide but sales of the game have exceeded all of Ubisoft’s expectation as it has risen to be in the top three list of best selling video game titles for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles in most of the regions it was released for sale into. Assassin’s Creed sold over two and a half million copies of the game in under four weeks being available for purchase. Due to this increase in sales Ubisoft has had to alter it’s expectations regarding Assassin’s Creed: Ubisoft now forecasts that Ubisoft will result in five million copies sold as opposed to Ubisoft’s previous total of three million copies sold worldwide. This success by Assassin’s Creed has also caused Ubisoft to redefine it’s 4th quarter release schedule with titles like Tom Clancy’s EndWar, Brothers In Arms Hell’s Highway and Far Cry now being set for a release in the 2008-2009 fiscal year as opposed to the 4th quarter of the 2007-2008 fiscal year.
Yves Guillemot, the Chief Executive Officer of Ubisoft, offered the comment that “ With the exceptional performance of Assassin’s Creed™, the fastest-selling new video game intellectual property in the U.S. ever, Ubisoft’s teams have once again demonstrated their expertise in creating and promoting major brands.” Mr Guillemot also stated that “these regular-sequel franchises are a source of very high profitability both in the short and long term. Drawing on its strong internal development capacities, Ubisoft is currently in an ideal position to continue to develop numerous new creations - an essential condition for winning market share and ensuring strong growth going forward."
