UK: PS3 sells Two Million Units While PSP Sells Three million
Posted by Craig Chapple, 265 days ago Mar 5, 2009 15:10

Sony has reported UK PS3 sales hitting over the 2 million mark in the UK, while the PSP sold 3 million.

"Obviously PS3 is a premium product with a premium price tag." Sony Computer Entertainment UK Senior Vice President and managing director Ray Maguire told MCV." Interestingly, because it has sold two million at a higher price, it suggests more longevity of the PS3 because we have chipped away at the top end of the triangle."

Franchises such as Resistance, Little Big Planet and Killzone have helped increase sales further for Sony’s consoles to hit these milestones.  Maguire said "Everyone is reporting really good sales of Killzone 2… Weve seen not just a really good day one – but also for the game to be a good solid seller all the way through”. Killzone 2 made its debut on the PS3 by beating Xbox 360’s Halo Wars to top spot in the UK sales chart.

Further commenting on the impact of Killzone 2 to PS3 sales Maguire said, "it certainly has helped drive hardware I think there were a lot of people out there who wanted something which really showed the power of PlayStation 3 – and now they can see it it’s a reason for them to get on board."

"There was a renewed vigour from consumers once we had the Slim ‘n’ Lite out there as it emphasised the portability of the device,” said Maguire about the fortunes of the PSP.

It appears Sony now finally has a huge franchise in Killzone to compete with the console selling hit that is Halo.
