Rock Band fans around the world just couldn’t let it be, and finally our cries have been answered: MTV, Harmonix, and Apple Corps. have come together and announced today that The Beatles: Rock Band is officially happening on Sept. 9, 2009.
Awful puns aside, “The music-based video game, an unprecedented, experiential progression through and celebration of the music and artistry of The Beatles, will be available simultaneously worldwide in North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and other territories,” according to the press release on the rockband.com forums.
“The Beatles: Rock Band will allow fans to pick up the guitar, bass, mic or drums and experience The Beatles extraordinary catalogue of music through gameplay that takes players on a journey through the legacy and evolution of the band’s legendary career,” the release said.
Along with the release of the game, MTV and Harmonix are going to be offering some new hardware modeled after the instruments used by “the fab four” throughout their careers. Though the game will be sold for $59.99 USD, the guitars will sell alone for $99.99 each, and a “Limited Edition Premium Bundle” will be available for $249.99.
Teaming up alongside the Harmonix crew for The Beatles: Rock Band will be Giles Martin, co-producer of The Beatles’ “LOVE” album project. Martin will serve as Music Producer and provide a little inside expertise on “the lads.”
“The Beatles: Rock Band marks the first time that Apple Corps, along with EMI Music, Harrisongs Ltd, and Sony/ATV Music Publishing, has agreed to present The Beatles music in an interactive video game format,” said the press release.
No further details are available yet on the hardware or pricing outside the US, but the game is confirmed for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, and the official site for the game can be found at http://www.thebeatlesrockband.com
