Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles and remakes of Gamecube games Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero were announced by Capcom today for the Wii.
TGR reported earlier this week that Capcom would be making an official announcement regarding the franchise today, and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles is the result.
The Darkside Chronicles is the sequel to the on-rails Wii shooter The Umbrella Chronicles due for release in North America this winter, exclusively on Wii.
Capcom will also be introducing a new “Classics” line which will bring the Gamecube version of the Resident Evil original and Resident Evil Zero back again exclusively to the Wii.
“We are very excited to be bringing the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles to the Wii as it’s the perfect fit for the platform,” said Mona Hamilton, vice president, marketing, Capcom Entertainment. “We are always looking for new ways to give Capcom fans a chance to experience our games. Umbrella Chronicles was a huge success for us, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles includes a more in-depth co-op experience, and we are excited to bring this exclusive content to the Wii audience.”
The Darkside Chronicles will be based on Resident Evil 2 and include Leon S Kennedy and Claire Redfield, and Capcom are promising to provide a more “immersive” Chronicles survival experience as well as filling in on the missing parts of the plot in Umbrella Chronicles. The game also features a new “evade system” which will utilize the Wii Remote to add a “more intense experience when fighting enemies.”
Refitted to support the Wii remote, the first two instalments in the Resident Evil Classics line are due to launch this year for $29.99 each.
