Perfect Dark could finally be making its way to the Xbox Live Arcade Marketplace. According to the super sharp eyes over at Xbox 360 Achivements, a screen shot of the new Banjo-Kazooie Premium Theme alludes to the existence of a Perfect Dark port running on the Xbox 360 hardware.
Near the avatar displayed on the gamer card, a small little icon of Joana Dark (in all her fuzzy, distorted, polygonal glory) is visible. The picture noticeably different than the one used to represent Perfect Dark’s sequel/prequel, Perfect Dark Zero, and appears to have been taken from Perfect Dark on the Nintendo 64.
These icons are used to indicate games that have recently been played under that gamer tag.
Previously, another of Rare’s Nintendo 64 era classics, GoldenEye, was slated to be released on Xbox Live’s Arcade Marketplace but was ultimately scrapped due to financial reasons. Not were there licensing issues with certain actors (whose likenesses are depicted in the game) but Microsoft and Nintendo were unable to negotiate a deal concerning payment. Even though Microsoft bought Rare in 2002, Nintendo still owns partial rights to the game.
GoldenEye for Xbox Live Arcade, which was only months away from completion, would have been identical to the version released on the Nintendo 64 in 1997 but with an online multiplayer component added. If a Xbox 360 version of Perfect Dark is in the works, it is unknown whether or not it will receive the same treatment.
In regards to a port or remake of Perfect Dark coming to the Xbox 360, Microsoft responded, "We have nothing to announce at this time."
