In reference to that immortal song, this website silently went live in the early hours Tuesday morning. At first glance, the site appears to count down to an announcement concerning a remake of Marvel vs. Capcom 2, with URL tu4ar standing for "Take You For A Ride," and giant numeral "2" in the background.
An unknown person reportedly introduced the website by spamming the address in #Capcom - a fan channel for members of the Shoryuken community. While certainly not the most official way of teasing a website, some of the signs behind the scenes indicate that this website may be legit.
While loading, the website transfers data from another domain - http://dev02.capcomusa.net/. The base url just loads a Fedora test page, but some snooping on that domain yields another url - http://dev02.capcomusa.net/mvc2gmt/. If nothing else, this new URL certainly indicates the game in question is MvC2, with the timer being based on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
A bit more snooping reveals even more promising information. The domain, www.tu4ar.com, is registered to one Kathleen Alley who lives in Redwood City, California. Capcom USA is located in San Mateo, CA - a mere 10 to 15 miles away from Redwood City. Alley could very well be an employee of Capcom USA. Another link to Capcom proper comes in the form of this Capcom-unity post, which includes a reference to the website in question (thanks to NeoGAF member Judderman for the spot).
Perhaps most telling of all, CAPTIVATE ’09 - Capcom’s annual game expo - is set to kick off in just over a week. While the timer is set to expire shortly before the scheduled start of the event, the count down may signal a pre-event announcement so journalists can prepare to cover the game.
We’ve contacted both Capcom and the original registrant for the website, and will update if any new revelations surface.
