Titmouse Games, the developer behind upcoming games Seven Haunted Seas and Fistfull of Blood, shared their inspirations and visions for the two upcoming games with TGR during an interview at GDC 2009.
Creative Director Aaron Habibipour described Seven Haunted Seas as an action RPG, citing his enjoyment of Fable II and The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker as inspiration behind the project. According to Habibipour, the game will focus more on accessible combat and exploration as opposed to a traditional challenge.
"We want it to be fun, and fun for a lot of people," Habibipour said, "not just hardcore gamers."
With this goal in mind, it’s no wonder that Titmouse is looking to release SHS on the Nintendo Wii. While a publishing deal has yet to be finalized, most gamers would agree that the console could use more games with a darker tone. Given that Titmouse is the animation behind decidedly brutal Adult Swim show Metalocalypse, they have all the credentails necessary to deliver a grittier experience.
"The tone is dark and it’s violent," VP and Creative Producer Keith Fay said, "but it’s fun. It’s got a sense of humor about it."
The developers also shared some inspiration about the game’s main character.
"I would say that Scurvy Pete is kind of a cross between Hellboy and Yosemite Sam," Habibipour said. "My mindset was on a really curmudgeoney short stocky dude who’s evil and talks a lot of crap to people."
Titmouse also discussed their other project - an adaptation of the comic book Fistfull of Blood. While no details are yet finalized, the team is looking at an episodic game on mobile divices (the iPhone in particular).
