Bethesda is having a little trouble with Broken Steel, their latest Fallout 3 DLC. PC users (and a few Xbox folks) have been reporting that the new download is, well, broken.
The story hit earlier this morning when the internets started buzzing with reports of a "cryptographic error message" by Vista users. According to a follow-up this afternoon by Kotaku, Bethesda’s Pete Hines is already on top of the problem.
"We’re seeing the same error folks have reported, which is a Games for Windows Live DRM install error," said Hines. "Microsoft is working on fixing it, and we’ll let everyone know once we’ve verified it."
Bethesda had some similar troubles when they released Fallout 3’s The Pitt DLC in March, with several Xbox 360 users reporting bugs during the install. Hines reported then that the problem lie in the English version install file for Xbox Live, and Bethesda and Microsoft had to work together to replace the file as quickly as possible with a working version.
Though this current batch of problems reside mostly on the PC side of things, there are a few unrelated errors on the Xbox 360 version of Broken Steel, even though Bethesda seems to think the problem will resolve itself.
"The Xbox Live servers don’t seem to be fully synched yet with the additional achievements," said Bethesda, "This should fix itself automatically soon. People won’t lose any achievements."
There has been no response from Microsoft, and no report yet on the status of the Windows Live or Xbox Live issues.
