Everyone has been patiently humming the tune of the Ghostbusters theme as they patiently await the game’s arrival to the consoles this year, but not everyone will get to play it in Europe. Atari announced today that the company has signed a deal with Sony Europe to make the upcoming Ghostbusters title a timed Sony exclusive meaning it would only be available for purchase on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 for the first few months.
“With our colleagues at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe publishing Ghostbusters: The Video Game, we are thrilled by the dynamic new Ghostbusters game," said Mark Caplan, Licensing-Interactive Vice President for Sony Pictures Consumer Products. "We think it will have tremendous appeal to gamers and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this beloved franchise.”
Sony appears thrilled to be offering Ghosbusters, and rightfullly so. Many of the original Ghostbusters cast such as Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis have done quite a lot of writing for the game and many of the original actors have done voice acting for the title.
This new deal set forth by Sony Europe and Atari will have absolutely no effect on the North American release. Ghostbusters will still be released for Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, PC, and DS on June 16th, and it will hit the PS3 and PS2 on June 19th in Europe. There has also been some rumors and such about the PSP version of the game, and it has now been confirmed as well, along with a release date sometime this fall.
