No longer content to merely produce movies (Deja Vu, Gone in Sixty Seconds) and television series (Dark Blue, CSI), internationally renowned film producer Jerry Bruckheimer is planning on taking a stab at the world of video games as well. This new venture is apparently a serious one, because, according to Street Insider, Bruckheimer and MTV games announced that they are appointing Jim Veevaert and Jay Cohen to head Bruckheimer Games as President of Production and President of Development.
"Jim Veevaert and Jay Cohen are two of the most knowledgeable, brightest, and creative talents in this industry," said Bruckheimer. "Throughout their careers, Jim and Jay have both demonstrated their unstoppable desire to advance the medium, which is exactly what we do with feature films and television. We are going to create content that challenges the way things are done and the experiences gamers have today."
Veevaert has worked with Microsoft Games for the last eight years and was Executive Producer for Halo 3. Additionally, he was also the man responsible for negotiating a business relationship between Microsoft and Gears of War creators, Epic Studios. Gears of War and Halo are renowned for being two of the top exclusive franchises for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game console.
Cohen has spent the last ten years as Senior Vice President of Publishing for Ubisoft. He is responsible for organizing and executing the launches of some of Ubisoft’s biggest franchises, including Prince of Persia, Ghost Recon, and Assassin’s Creed.
Bruckheimer is a movie producer who has worked on a variety of films ranging from Armageddon to Remember the Titans to Top Gun.
All that is missing from this winning equation is Bruckheimer’s periodic partner-in-crime and movie director Michael Bay. Bruckheimer has produced a number of Bay’s movies such as Armageddon, The Rock, Bad Boys, and the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Given Bay’s penchant for cheesy dialogue, absurd one-liners, and loads of explosions, one would figure the duo of Bruckheimer and Bay would feel right at home creating video games along the lines of high-octane shooters like Gears of War.
