EA’s press conference hit all major upcoming games, showing new trailers and revealing a few new details. From the RPG side of things, Bioware bigwigs Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuck presented Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2. Both games struck an intense tone, with Origins interleaving a sex scene with bloody violence and ME2’s trailer featuring Nine Inch Nails music. As if two huge RPGs weren’t enough for EA’s lineup, several robe-clad lightsaber-equipped jedi impersonators crowded the stage to usher in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Aside from a new trailer, the presenters also revealed that Old Republic will be the first fully-voiced MMORPG.
Moving on to action / adventure, Tim Schafer took the stage to discuss Brutal Legend, listing the game’s involved celebrities: Jack Black, Lita Ford, Rob Halford, and Ozzy Ozbourne. The Saboteur brings Sin City-ish visuals to World War 2 with the main character returning color and freedom to Europe with good old fashioned nazi slaying. Crysis 2 and APB also premiered new trailers.
Of course, no EA presentation would be complete without new sports titles. Need for Speed: Shift will feature a driver profile which advances according to a player’s driving style - it’s essentially a leveling system for the new racer. After that, Peter Moore presented a live demo of Fight Night Round 4, which releases June 25. In Balance Board news, EA apparently solved the third-party Wii problem with EA Sports Active - the game performed well enough to warrant expansion content which will be available this holiday. New entries to the EA sports line include EA MMA and EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis - a mixed martial arts and tennis game respectively.
And, for the sake of completeness, EA also announced games squarely targeted at female tweens. Littlest Pet Shop Online and Pajama Party will soon bring the excitement of pony customization and hair teasing minigames to your gaming experiences. Riveting.
