Vuzix Corporation announces new product.
Posted by Nick24444, Jan 2, 2008 13:41

The Vuzix Corporation announced today a new release designed to increase the interactivity gamers experience while playing their favorite single player, multiplayer, or online games. The new iWear AV920-C features a 62 inch virtual screen combined with dual 640 x 480 high resolution LCD displays that change the face of multiplayer gaming as we know it today. All of have experienced the main problem of linked multiplayer gaming: screen checking. You’re playing a  FFA match with your friends in front of the TV but you’re distracted by the split screen setup where each of you has a tiny box on the screen to view your character’s activities while your friends are also studying their on screen boxes and yours.

How the iView helps to combat this problem is by allowing players to select their portion of the screen, either for a one on one match or a larger Free-For-All type combat, and increase the image to create a full screen image on their own virtual 62 inch monitor. In addition multiple iView’s can be linked together so that a linked game can continue with each player being able to view their own screen separately of the other players to better focus on the game and allowing each player to maintain the element of surprise by eliminating the ability of the other player(s) to peek at each others’ screens.

Also Vuzix is offering an upgrade to owners of the current AV920 which is called the AV920 Console Kit. The Kit will contain everything required, both hardware and firmware, to transform a AV920 into the newer AV920-C. Two executives of Vuzix, CEO Paul Travers and National Sales Manager Mike Hallet, offered statements regarding the just releases AV920-C. Mr. Travers stated that he believed the ability for each player to focus on their own virtual screens “yhis will change how local or in-home multiplayer games are played”. Mr. Hallet also spoke up on the AV920 Upgrade Kit when he stated that  “We want to provide value to our customers.  We believe that offering the upgrade versus only making the console capabilities to new purchases was the right thing to do”.

The complete list of features for the AV920-C provided by Vuzix are as follows:

  • The AV920-C’s features include:
  • Virtual 62” screen viewed from 9-feet
