Despite the liquidation of FASA studios in September it seems that there are still future Shadowrun games in the works. Today Kimona, the lead programmer at FASA, announced the shutting down of the official Shadowrun forums, but along with this announcement came some good news for fans. While explaining that the forums were being taken offline because of the lack of staff to manage them, Kimona made this statement: “We’ll eventually close down www.shadowrun.com and transition it to the folks working on the next generation of Shadowrun products.”
Shadowrun was originally a pen and paper roll playing game that spawned several videogames, the latest which took the form of a team based multiplayer shooter for the Xbox 360 and PC. While Shadowrun was met with some criticism by fans for not being an RPG and received mixed reviews, the game became somewhat of an underground hit with a small but strong following. There is no word yet if future games in the franchise will continue the last title’s gameplay style or if it will be taken to the RPG genre. Never the less fans should be happy to know that the series is alive and well.
