Microsoft promised Xbox Live subscribers a free Live Arcade game to atone for the problems that had hindered the service during the holidays, and today, they revealed that the free game will be Undertow. Starting next Wednesday at 2:00 a.m. PST through Sunday 11:59 p.m. PST, Live members (both Gold and Silver) will be able to download the full version of Undertow, free of charge.

While Undertow may be one of the more highly rated games available on XBLA, it’s still unclear what gamers that already own the title are meant to do. Originally released on November 21, 2007 for 800 MS points, Undertow is an aquatic based shooter that features high definition graphics, as well as multiple game play modes. The game contains a story-driven single player mode, on- and offline co-op, as well as multiplayer for 2-16 players. Gamers can align themselves with one of three different races (Iron Marine, Nemoidian, or Atlantian), all of which feature four different unit types that vary in abilities from the small and agile to the large and powerful. Undertow is developed by Chair Entertainment Group.

You think they would have thought of that happening, maybe it wasn’t possible to just hand out MS points.

For all of those who already have Undertow they’ve been reimbursed the points, Mark.
