Activision Blizzard, developer of such titles as the Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo series, announced today that its Warcraft-themed MMO World of Warcraft now has over ten million subscribers all over the world. This breaks down to two million World of Warcraft players in Europe, two and a half million WoW players in North America, and roughly five and a half million players in Asia.

This achievement now stands beside the other accolades World of Warcraft has garnered since is North American release in November 23, 2004. It has been the bestselling PC title for both 2005 and 2006 and was supplanted only by it’s Burning Crusade expansion which was released in 2007. The Burning Crusade expansion, in addition to being the best PC Game of 2007, is also the fastest selling PC Game ever with 2.4 million copies sold in the first 24 hours, and 3.5 million in its first month. The next WoW expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, is still under development.

The CEO and co-founder of Blizzard, Mike Morhaime, stated that he found it “very gratifying to see gamers around the world continuing to show such enthusiasm and support for World of Warcraft," and that the company was “always pleased to welcome new players to the game, and we’re looking forward to sharing the next major content update with the entire community in the months ahead."

More information on the titles and updates in the World of Warcraft universe is available at www.worldofwarcraft.com.
