Electronic Arts has announced today that it has struck a deal with GigaMedia, which provides online entertainment software and services, in order to provide and maintain Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The game, which is based on Games Workshop’s Warhammer universe, will offer an advanced realm vs. realm system that will mean unending battle between the players of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.
GigaMedia will be cooperating with EA’s Mythic Development team on the project while GigaMedia itself will be responsible for marketing, community management, tech support, and customer service for the new title. EA has previously cooperated with GigaMedia on its NBA Street Online title which was released in the same three areas. When Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning is released in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau, players there will be offered the chance to choose from between one of six forces: the Dwarves, High Elves, the humans of the Empire, the Greenskins, Dark Elves or the human followers of Chaos. There will also be a newly included Public Quest system and a titanic City Siege campaign where players can attack, conquer, and plunder an enemy city.
The CEO of GigaMedia, Arthur M. Wang, says that “we are pleased and honored to become EA’s operating partner on another groundbreaking online game.” Mark Jacobs, the VP and General Manager of EA Mythic, said that “it is a privilege to work with GigaMedia to bring our game to Asia’s vibrant and growing population of MMORPG fans” before adding that “ Warhammer Online is widely anticipated in both North America and Europe. With GigaMedia as a partner, we expect that Asian gamers will have a lot to look forward to.”
Finally Jon Niermann, the President of EA Asia, said that “we are very excited to be partnering with GigaMedia on this project and delivering it in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau” prior to adding that “the MMORPG fantasy genre is a tried and tested success formula - especially in Asia - and we look forward to introducing a new audience to the uniquely dark, gritty, and humorous world of Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning.”
