Electronic Arts has announced today that it is expanding its library of sports titles with Facebreaker, currently under development by EA Canada, and will be made available for play on the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and the Wii sometime this year. The new title, which is being created by the same group that developed Fight Night Round 3, Facebreaker will feature fun, engrossing gameplay and high-powered graphics. Each boxer in the game has an ego as large as their personalities: the playable characters in Facebreaker feature Romeon, a Latin man with trademark pelvic thrusts, and Molotov who is a massively built Russian explosives expert who likes to fight dirty in the ring.
In addition, players can duplicate the real life facial characteristics of a friend or foe using Photo Game Face and engaging them in combat. Each blow you inflict upon your opponent is matched by facial injury that occurs in real time. When your opponent is struck by a haymaker, face shot, or body blow and itime another button press properly you can strike your opponent with a more powerful blow that’ll knock their blocks or their socks off, whichever comes first.
Peter Moore, the president of EA Sports, was quoted as saying that “we’re very excited to announce FaceBreaker, an all-new franchise from EA Sports that is fun, fresh and innovative” before going on to add that the game’s most important point is that it reinvigorates one of the great genres in sports videogames.” Mr. Moore also added a personal note when he stated that “arcade boxing takes me back to my roots in this industry, and this game signals our shift to adding more approachable fun to our product lineup. In no time at all, you’ll be picking up the controllers and knocking your opponent around the ring, smashing faces, and having a riot.”
