Electronic Arts announced today that a deal between itself and film director and producer Steven Spielberg has now been finalized. The terms of the partnership concern the development of a new title for the Wii console, titled Boom Blox, which is scheduled for a release in May 2008. Boom Blox for the Nintendo Wii will contain over 300 levels, a cast who number more than thirty different characters, and an built in user friendly game editor that gives players the chance to stretch the boundaries of the game further then what came out of the box.

Boom Blox will feature single player, co-op, and versus style of gameplay that will bring players through a large number of brain busters and puzzling problems that have been designed to be used with the Wii’s motion sensing technology. There are also a number of lively characters to play with, such as block-laying chickens or baseball-throwing monkeys through four differently structured environments: Tiki, Medieval, Frontier, and Haunted. Also any of the bits and pieces of the various levels that strike the player’s eye can be taken apart and reassembled into a brand new level using Create Mode to shift props, blocks, and characters that have been made available as the game goes along. These new designs, once created, can be passed among friends of spread along via WiiConnect24 to allow others to try their hand at these unique puzzles.

Steven Spielberg stated that his reasons for cooperating with EA were that “I am a gamer myself, and I really wanted to create a video game that I could play with my kids.” Mr. Spielberg also added that “BOOM BLOX features an enormous amount of fun challenges and cool scenarios for your kids to solve or for you to master together.” The idea for the game, according to Mr. Spielberg, “Came while I [Spielberg] was playing the Wii for the first time.” Mr. Spielberg finally offered that “From the initial concept to what the game is today, it’s always been built around the innovations the Wii brings to playing games. BOOM BLOX plays on the enjoyment of building and knocking down blocks, something that can appeal innately to kids and adults of all ages.”

The executive producer of the game, Louis Castle, was quoted as saying that “We developed BOOM BLOX with endless combinations of gameplay in mind” before going on to say that “With over three hundred levels, built upon a full real-time physics model, your experience can be as easy or difficult as you want it to be - there really is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Boom Blox will be released for the Nintendo Wii and mobile units coming this spring. For information on Boom Blox visit http://www.BOOMBLOX.ea.com and for information on which mobile platforms the title will be available on visit http://www.eamobile.com
