As many of you may have already heard, Toshiba has officially thrown in the towel and halted the production of their HD-DVD format. This of course means that Blu-ray has won the format war and will be featured in even more devices in the coming months.
Well, Sony has wasted no time to begin this process and has reportedly been working with one of their biggest rivals, Microsoft, to add the Blu-ray player to the Xbox 360. As of now, there has been no official mention of Microsoft adopting the Blu-ray player for their gaming system; however, with HD-DVD dead in the water, they may not have a choice.
What does this mean for us though? Well, currently, the Blu-ray player has a hefty price tag of $399.99. This could mean a price increase on Xbox 360 systems featuring the Blu-ray player; however, this is by no means official.
In addition to Microsoft, Sony has also been rumored to be in talks with Apple Computers to include the Blu-ray player in their line as well.
More information to come as it is released.
