Midway and Epic Games announced today that the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III will be hitting shelves this summer. The 360 version of the acclaimed multiplayer shooter will be sporting some exclusive content and functionality, including two new characters, five new maps, as well as split screen functionality not found in the PS3 version. This news comes at a great relief to 360 owners, as there has been some confusion on the status of the 360 version of UT3 for the past few months, and when, or if ever, the game would see a release. The bone of contention between Epic and Microsoft was the addition of user generated content; however, no such thing is mentioned in the latest press release.
Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, commented on the announcement saying: "We’re very excited to be bringing Unreal Tournament 3 to Xbox 360. Whether playing against our fantastic AI ’bots’ or playing online with friends over Xbox LIVE, UT3 is a great fast-paced game with spectacular environments, weaponry and vehicles. Its comprehensive multiplayer offerings are truly going to shine on Xbox LIVE." Unreal Tournament III has currently sold over 1 million copies for Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Window’s PC.
