Analyst: Wii in Danger Due to Grand Theft Auto 4
Posted by Nick McCavitt, May 5, 2008 13:20

According to an article by Forbes, the recent release of Grand Theft Auto 4 not only represents a great boon to owners of next generation consoles, but at the same time, this means trouble for the Wii. Why might this be the case? Well, according to certain unnamed market analysts, the release of GTA IV is going to draw attention away from Nintendo’s Wii console and toward the other more powerful next generation console systems particularly the Playstation 3 (it’s all part of that “better graphics on the PS3” squabble we’ve been hearing about.)

Evidently, graphics are part of the whole problem. As we know, the whole reason behind the creation of the Wii was that it offered something different. It didn’t offer the cutting edge high powered gaming experience that the Xbox 360 and PS3 offered its consumers, but instead catered to a different market. Nintendo instead chose to focus on offering consumers a more social and family friendly gaming experience that was both fun and not heavy on the paycheck. Up until now, this has turned out to be a brilliant stroke by Nintendo, as the sales figures of its Wii console have been blazing up the charts; however, could the lack of GTA IV for the Wii cause the PS3 and Xbox 360 to gain ground or even cause the Wii itself to stumble?

To put it another way, GTA IV may be the magic mushroom that Microsoft and Sony need to stomp their way past the Wii; however, as always, only time will tell. Stay tuned to TheGameReviews.com for additional details as they come in.
