SCEE is Confident Regarding Hardware Sales, Cryptic About GTA IV DLC

SCEE has been doing well, and there’s no shame in telling everyone about it. At least that’s what David Reeves, SCEE president, seemed to think Tuesday night at Playstation Day, as he commented on the fact that Playstation 3 sales in Europe exceeded those of the Xbox 360 in the region.

“I think the fact that [Microsoft] launched 18 months before… It is significant for us because we get so many things thrown at us, because we were too expensive, we came too late, we didn’t launch early enough in Europe, and Xbox have been saying, ‘Well, we’re doing well and we’re the best the console,’ so we thought, for once we will say, actually, very quietly, ‘We’ve passed them,’” Reeves told videogaming247.

Even as Microsoft touted of the exclusivity of the upcoming downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto 4, Reeves remained on the offensive. When asked about the PS3’s lack of downloadable episodes byVideoGamer.com, he replied, “Well I think you probably will see it, it’s just that a deal obviously was struck between Microsoft and Take-Two to do that, and if that’s what they want to do, I think that’s the last shot they have.”

As if that sentence wasn’t confusing enough, Reeves then offered a word of advice to PS3 owners wondering if they were going to be left out of the DLC party: “I would say to them then, you know, email Rockstar (laughs), and ask them what’s coming. I think they already are, probably!”

Asked if that meant some unannounced content was on the way, he merely said, “We can make an announcement when we make an announcement.”

Does this mean that the Microsoft deal was a timed exclusive, and PS3 owners will be getting the downloadable episodes for their copies of GTA4? If so, then that $50 million sure didn’t buy much, especially if Sony can go around “not announcing” it before the supposedly exclusive content is even available.
